Hey Scott, do you have any tips on walking out a max squat? I have 6 weeks till a meet where I have to walk out the squat. I've used a monolift for a long time now and just once this past week I tried walking out and squatted up to about 85% for a double and it was very awkward with that. Although it wasn't too bad, I'm kind of nervous what it will be like with max weight. Thanks for any advice.

April, I guess first rule is do as I say not as I do. LOL

The thing I did to help work my walkout was squat with chains completely off the ground. It makes the walk out very scary but will build confidence and stability.

The next key is to slow the walkout down. Make sure you lift out of the rack and let weight settle. Then take one step back then let weight settle. Take another step and let weight settle again.

The last thing is make sure your belly is as tight against the belt as you can make it.

knee is ok, i had small tears and the rest was just trauma to it. Knee hurts a bit, but no need to stop training. Doc says keep it at 50%, so thats a green light for me to go 100%.

This does make sense Mark, but this is why I asked Scott this question, since he would actually explain if there is a better technique to it, since I knew that was the kind of answer you would give.

Dynamic Bench

again no TV camera's in the gym, so guess not everyone wants to show up. Its funny how you can match up the people with the most success in powerlifting are the ones who show up and train. Its really funny how that works out.

Bench
225x3x3 with 40lbs chains
225x3x3 with 80lbs chains
225x3x3 with 120lbs chains

Floor press
225x5
315x5
405x5

Kettlebell Floor press 3 sets of 25 reps

Cable Tris x 4 sets
DB curls

Hey Scott,

I noticed that you use a lot of chain work on your raw benching. I know this builds stability but it also seems to drain the CNS a lot. Do you notice effects in your GPP after workouts like that on 12/24/09?

First kid wtf is CNS and GPP? LOL actually I went back and looked at my training when I went from 661 to 705 and I did lots of chain work and Floor press. Floor press is a big weakness of mine (as its a full range movement) so I focused a lot on it in that cycle. The last cycle I didn't do enough floor and chains work. SOOO I'm doing it now. Also bands kill my torn up arm. I will be doing a 3 wk wave of them next week.

Loved this quote!

I really love this answer... basically I'm reading it as if you suck at something, then do it until you get better at it. If it hurts, load the bar up.

Thats just awesome...

Jack, I used to really suck at Floor press also after my tricep reattachment I have to carefull yet still push the hell out of my tri's. Hell if I can JUST get from 710 to 750, I think 2700plus will be met on 2nd attempts. BUT thats why there are 3 lifts. Its because its really fucking hard to get good at all of them at once.

Please don't take what I wrote the wrong way. I just really do like the answer you gave because its so true.

You and I have that weirdly frightening twin phenomena thing going on. Floor presses for me suck completely because of my thick chest and ridiculous T-rex arms, its a full range bench press with no leg drive. I have to blow all the air out of my lungs to get my elbows to touch the floor, so I understand exactly what you are saying. I like the way you wrote it.

You can add my fat ass to the list of people that have full range on a floor press. Also, the hardest part of that movement is trying to stand back up after you do the lift.
