Hussey Classic Meet Results

Sq

627 - good
666 - passed out coming up out of the hole...never done that before and honestly I'd rather bleed or something.
666 - Mark and I talked about it and decided that he would call me up a little early based on some other squats that had passed and the fact that getting that deep might make me pass out again. It didn't end up being necessary because I stayed more upright and that solved the problem but Mark couldn't read my mind and it's hard to resist an "up" call.

Bench

347 - good
402 - ended up touching too high and the bar died a couple inches of my chest
402 - set up a little too deep into the bench and flirted with the uprights which set off a chain of events. Came up a little short of lockout on the left.

DL
545 - easy
562 - small PR to make sure I got one on the day - easy
600 - no...took it becaue I couldn't think of a good reason not to. (Video shows I got it to my knees, which is better than I thought.)

53 lb negative PR total but honestly the only thing that felt particularly heavy was the last deadlfit. Just a couple stupid little things that hopefully should be easy to clear up.

Helluva fun meet. Glad we went.

Jim wrote back in the gym Sunday....and what do you know there he was.
That is a great concept Jim.

Time to push that bench to the next level for big fat prs in your next meet.

11-18-07 Bench assistance stuff

Yes I was back in the gym today after a fun trip to Vegas.

I'm not sure that this day is ever going to be interesting enough to really log.

Just did my normal kettlebell hanging from the monster-minis bench dealies for 5 sets of 10. Somedays these are easy and some they are hard. Today they were easy.

Did some face pulls, hammer curls and some tricep pushdowns with the Spud towel strap.

Did a long set of one plate rack pulls with the Tyler grips. My forearms are still feeling that. Those things make everything hard.

Threw on a size 60 Bash of Mark's to see if it will work as a training shirt for boards, lockouts, etc. to keep my shoulder from getting fucked up again. Seems like it will. I haven't done much lockout work other than reverse bands since my shoulder got jammed up in January. The meet showed me I really need help there.

Oh yeah...I flipped the big tire once during my trip to the dumpster.

When your not sore from your Thrusday workouts see if you can push this day a little. Maybe push up some DB work or some overhead kettle bells. Just like 1 somewhat hard exercise. If at all possible hit some speed work. Maybe 2 weeks on 1 week off or something like that. I think the very small amount of speed work I have done lately has really helped me on the bench. Just some thoughts for ya.

I usually do dumbbells on Sunday but I was lazy. I did some kettlebell presses that I forgot to log. My shoulder only got happier when dropped the speedwork completely but I could throw it in once in a while or maybe just mix in the heavier kettlebells on the pressing I'm already doing.

Face pulls

Rotating handle lat pulls

Kettle bell/monster mini bench

Seated rows with the wide grip reverse handle bar

Seated rows to the neck with the Spud Towel grip

curls

KB triceps presses

Barbell shrugs/snatch grip high pull superset

3 to 4 sets of 10 for everything. Actual weights inconsequential. 20 min cardio watching the Raider game. Was alone in the gym for most of this and it felt like the old days when I used to train alone and do more bb type stuff. Got on a roll after a while. Also felt a little like the Sundays at the old BCZ...but there were no Scalebreakers...or teammates.

Raw Buff Bar Box squats 14" box, "medium" foam

blah
230 x 5
320 x 5
410 x 2
460 x 1
500 x 1

Back Attack with whatever Hoss had set up x 3 sets (Last set was way heavy and only got 5 reps - look at his log if you gotta know)

Pull-down abs x 4 sets

Hypers x 4 sets

Still trying to figure out why I squatted raw again this week. Something about a short hairy kid that I still can't get to sign up on the forum. (Update: hairy kid has finally joined. Hi, Parker.) I thought I just had a compression bruise on my quad from the meet, but I'm starting to think I might have a little tear. Only hurts when I touch it though.

Threw on Z's 58 BASH, which is fairly loose.

Worked up to 365 full range x 1

Attempted 405 to a 3 board but forearms were cramping or having tendonitis or some shit. Arms have been sore for a couple weeks. Actually got more tonight than I expected. It will calm down...or I'll have to do something about it. Either way. Wasn't down for anymore pressing after that.

Tricep pushdowns x 4 sets

Cable curls with rope attachment x 4 sets (haven't done these in years and they felt great)

Shrugs with the 100s

Shot a bunch of stuff for the bench dvd during and after training tonight. Looking forward to getting that thing off my plate. Starting to feel pretty good about the content tho.

I wish. 2 x bw would be 450...which is a number I could live with for a while at least.

I need to not try to bench in a shirt after I pull against bands when my forearms already hurt. Those forearm things would only help if they were the size of Batman's gauntlets.

Just did some stuff to try to get some blood moving in my forearms.

Basically I bombed on this training session.

Next meet is Diablo on Feb 23.

Used the King Deadlifter, worked up to 545.

Did some buffalo bar squats with 315 to a 13-1/2 inch box.

Got a call that my best friend is in the hospital in DC. He's got cancer and not doing well. I'm going to be gone as soon as I can leave. Not sure when I'm coming back.

Leaving early Thursday. Back late Sunday as far as I know.

Value your friends. You never know what the hell's going to happen to them.
