Random quote: "Doctors and scientists said that breaking the four-minute mile was impossible, that one would die in the attempt. Thus, when I got up from the track after collapsing at the finish line, I figured I was dead." Roger Bannister

Great time last night at Monday Night Raw and eating sushi with some of Mark's wrestler buddies. I had to run my nephew home after, so I didn't get to bed until about 2. Was beat all day.

MES/DL

Rack pulls at knee

135 x bunch
225 x 5
315 x 5
365 x 3
405 x 3
suit, straps down
455 x 2
495 x 1
545 x 1
straps up
585 x 1

I don't think these mean anything for your pull from the floor but since I haven't been able to do shit with these in quite a while, I was pretty happy. Last rep wasn't too hard. I'll set them up lower next time they come up.

Lots of archback GMs with just the bar to stretch everything back out

Hypers

Bought a new shirt. Too small. Elite's Metal sizing chart still sucks. Got new briefs too and I think they're going to be too big. Even the free t-shirt doesn't fit right. I think sometimes that we buy new gear just to get ourselves fired up.

Straight weight full range

225 x 3

Sling Shot
275 x 5

58 Bash shirt
275 x 3 no touch
315 x 2 no touch
365 x 2 touched second rep
385 x 1
405 x 1
435 x 1

Ok...so here's a Sling Shot testimonial of sorts. I haven't been in shirt in at least a couple months. The one I wore today is loose but I still got within a few lbs of my meet pr. I've been integrating the Sling Shot on both DE and ME days. It's let me get in a whole lot of volume and handle heavier weights without getting beaten up by a shirt.

I had most of a nice long entry written the other day...and then the computer restarted before I finished it. Here's the short version...

I was out of the gym for a few days due to the Pro/Am. Got sick during the trip and have felt like shit ever since. I tried to squat on Tuesday night and missed 5 plates off a high box in briefs. I called it there. It was pretty clear that I wasn't making things any better. I started warming up to do some speed bench today but a few reps with 225 in the Sling Shot and my head was swimming. I just have a ton of fluid in my ears and my sinuses and get dizzy every time I strain...even a little. Hopefully it's over soon. I'd love to just sleep until then.

Back to the Pro/Am. It was a great meet and I had a lot of fun catching up with people. It's pretty clear why people lift in the SPF. For a national meet with a lot of cash at stake, there wasn't a bunch of BS or agendas. People could just lift and not have to worry about any of that stuff.

Quite a few things impressed me but a few things stood out...

Shawn Frankl was calmer than you can imagine while he was lifting his way to a 2715 total at 216 lb bw. The only time I saw him get fired up was for his third bench. He's just a pro. No other way to put it. Had a great talk with him the next morning in the warm up room about how he approaches lifting and how he rehabbed the shoulder injury that kept him from squatting for 10 weeks. He's a very down-to-earth, normal guy.

Dave Hoff was loose and goofy, cracking jokes mostly at this own expense while racking up the biggest total in Westside history. On his Facebook after the meet, most of what he wrote was congratulations to Chuck Vogelpohl. It's hard to imagine accomplishing as much as he has by the age of 22 and not being an asshole. There's something to be said for pursuing your goals and not feeling like you have shit all over everyone else in the process. The current crop of young guys at Westside hungry and moving up fast. Likable, too.

When Chuck walked into the warmup room, it got quiet. Well, it probably didn't but it seemed like it did. Would he be healthy enough to get through the meet? Could he approach the numbers he'd put up before? Luckily we were there to see him put together one of his best days and show that he's still a technician and strong as hell.

Mark and I got to hang out with some cool folks. Some of them may be visiting ST this fall. Dave Hoff is talking about coming out. Matt Kroc, too. Possibly a few more.

All in all, a great time.

Exchanged the 56 ACE shirt I got a couple weeks ago for a 58. Still no go. It just doesn't fit right. We adjusted it every way we could think of but it was just too awkward. Every hand off felt like twice whatever the bar weight was and I was never in a groove that would let me touch. I have no idea why this same shirt, same size is working for Austin. I think it just shows that we don't understand shirt mechanics as much as we think we do. Anyway, this one's going back. Not sure what I'll replace it with. I did put on my regular comp shirt and messed around with it for a while.
